Alexis Taylor, frontman de la banda inglesa Hot Chip, no sólo es un hombre talentoso, además es una persona bastante inquieta en el aspecto musical. El músico ya lanzó hace un par de años un disco solista, de ahí que tal vez no es raro que haya decidido continuar con otro proyecto alterno, el cual lleva por nombre About Group.
Sin embargo, esta vez no se trata de un asunto en solitario sino de una banda en toda la extensión de la palabra, pues en ella el músico se ha hecho acompañar por gente como John Coxon de Spiritualized, Charles Hayward de This Heat y Pat Tomas. El sonido del grupo ha sido definido como una mezcla entre el sonido de Hot Chip y el jazz libre, todo aderezado por una casi absoluta improvisación, pues al parecer Taylor decidió no enseñarles las canciones, con el objetivo de lograr un sonido en el que las primeras ideas fueran las que marcaran el ritmo.
El resultado de todo un día de grabación en el legendario estudio Abbey Road fue compilado en un disco, el segundo en su discografía, que saldrá a la luz el próximo 26 de abril y llevará por nombre Start and Complete. El primer sencillo de la placa será el tema “You’re No Good”, el cual será publicado el próximo 14 de marzo, así que sólo nos queda esperar para escuchar el resultado de este esfuerzo, que esperemos no sea tan difícil de digerir, pues la descripción realmente nos dice que tal vez estamos ante algo muy poco comercial.

If more missionaries wrote like this, we’d have more and btteer missionaries on the field. and they would be struggling even more to raise financial support.You’re right, missionaries do need to be frank about ALL the aspects of mission life, not just the romantic (read: fake) angle. But why do I write under a fake name? Why are you not really Ernest Goodman ? Because of what Jamie herself writes on 19 July: I get hate mail. Because if my circle of friends and supporters knew about what I wrote in my blog, they’d say I wasn’t a good missionary. Because supporters, especially financial ones, at this point don’t get it about the reality of mission life.I’ve believed for a long time that there needs to be a serious re-education in missions amongst American Christians, and while candid discussion is a good start, it’s not very advisable when you’re a fundraised missionary. I’m not even sure if I was agency funded I’d want to attract direct attention. So I still tell my stories, but the names and places are changed to protect the guilty.
